The Need for Conservation Societies

This morning I noticed these windows in the west end of Glasgow. This area is covered by a city Conservation Area Plan and an amenity society devoted to the maintenance of the character of the area.

Still, this was installed. The window sashes are required to be the same as the surrounding buildings. It does not appear that they are double glazed. So there are few excuses for putting this stick on lead and film pattern into these windows.

It does not fit into the vertical pattern of the building.

And it does not fit into the horizontal pattern of the street.

The windows with no decorative glass at all fit better into the street than this imitation of stained and leaded glass. How this got past both groups who have an interest in maintaining the character of the area is a mystery to me.
